Stephen L. Winters, MD, FACC, FHRS

DIRECTOR, Cardiac Rhythm Management Program

Dr. Stephen L. Winters is director of the cardiac rhythm management program at the Gagnon Cardiovascular Institute. He started the cardiac electrophysiology, pacemaker and defibrillator section at Morristown Medical Center in 1991 after serving as co director of the electrophysiology division at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. With expertise in all areas of arrhythmia evaluation and management, he has been performing invasive cardiac electrophysiology studies, including complex electrode catheter ablation, for over 25 years.

Dr. Winters has additional expertise in pacemaker and automatic defibrillator implantation, as well as follow-up and troubleshooting of such devices. He has served on the faculty of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia, and The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He is an associate professor of medicine at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association (HCMA). He is featured as one of the outstanding electrophysiologists in the Castle Connolly listing of best physicians and New Jersey’s Best Doctors and America's Top Doctors´s (ATD) listings.

Dr. Winters has published extensively on various aspects of cardiac rhythm management and continues to participate in pivotal clinical trials which offer new therapies and set the standards for arrhythmia management. His additional hospital positions include medical director of the coronary care unit and the cardiac research program at Morristown Medical Center. He is a past president of the New Jersey chapter of the American College of Cardiology. In addition, Dr. Winters is a contributing editor to the journal "Pacing And Clinical Electrophysiology" (PACE), is active in teaching and holds leadership positions in the international Heart Rhythm Society.
